So it's week 3 already! Time seems to be flying by a lot faster than expected. This past week I finally got started on the project. It still feels like I haven't done much, but I have to keep in mind that it is a slow moving process.
This week, I downloaded two different guides to the Silhouette software. I have started to read through them and find out a lot of new things that I didn't know before. I still haven't figured out everything there is to know, but I will once I finish reading each of the guides. Reading these guides has also been a little more interesting then I thought it would be. I thought that it would be tedious and boring, but the guides are actually very cool and give me interesting information. Learning about this very interesting machine has proven to be more fun than I thought. This is very good because it actually gives me motivation to get things done and read the guides. Once I get done reading these guides, I will download the software onto a computer and learn how to get the ropes mastered. Once I learn to handle everything in the program, that's when the real action will start happening. I will finally be able to start making the designs for my stickers! I will keep up the work and get this fun project done!

So, now that I gave you that nice introductory blog post last week, it's time to start getting our hands dirty. This week I plan on getting started on the setup of this whole project.
Let's do this! What I'm going to do this week to start is download the guide to the Silhouette software. I will read this entire guide to better my understanding of this machine and how to work it. I expect this part to be pretty easy, but it could become challenging when I have to start applying that knowledge while using the software. Learning new things does take time, but learning from reading is easy and straightforward. Now of course I am keeping in mind that this is just the beginning steps of the project, but I need to take baby steps. This will help lower my stress levels in the future. Planning this whole project out will also help with the stress. If I give myself dates for different assignments to be due, then it will be a lot easier to manage the time and materials I have. The whole project may start out easy, but it will get more and more challenging when I start using the software to design the stickers. I feel like reading the guide will be the easiest thing to do. The understanding part will be a little more challenging, but I don't think it will be too much to handle. Even if the mere idea of this project stresses me out a little bit, I think I will really enjoy it and the results I will get out of it!! And so it begins. The infamous genius hour project that I have heard about from so many other people is now entering into my reality. I'm a little nervous because this is such a big project, but I am also very excited about what I get to do in my project!
When I had to start thinking about what I wanted to do for my project, I was very lost and had no absolute clue about what I was going to do. I sat down with my mother and we discussed what I could possibly do for about two hours straight. It was exhausting. But my mother gave me an idea that would work for the project and it interested me. She happened to mention that I could do something with her Silhouette machine, and that sparked it all. At first, I was a little troubled with how I would incorporate learning how to use that into my project. I had always wanted a customized vinyl sticker for my Yeti cup, and so I decided I would just make a sticker for myself to put on that cup. I also had to think about how I would make this project last for twelve whole weeks. I have no clue how to use the machine or the software that controls the machine, so I knew I would have to learn how to do that first. With the Silhouette software, there luckily comes a guide about how to use it. This is going to be a lifesaver for me in my journey to learn how to use this thing. Once I learn the basics about the software, I am then going to get into the more advanced side of the designing process. Keeping in mind that I have had no experience in online designing, I knew that this would also take a while for me to do. Once I get the hang of the whole process, hopefully the sticker making will be pretty easy. I am fully confident that this project is going to be tough at times, but I am also confident that I am going to have fun with it and enjoy the journey! |
AuthorMy name is Kaitlyn Foil and this is the website for my Genius Hour Project. Over the course of the next twelve weeks, I will be learning how to use Silhouette Software to create vinyl stickers for my tumbler, and creating them with a Silhouette machine. ArchivesNo Archives Categories |
